In collaboration with Mercy Behavioral Health, HDS provides behavioral and mental health services for the deaf and hard of hearing in southwestern Pennsylvania. All Behavioral Health therapists are fluent in American Sign Language and skilled at eliminating communication barriers, as well as providing psychiatric help. These professionals recognize the unique behavioral health needs of individuals who are Deaf or hard of hearing. The small, specialized mental health team responds to clients’ needs through several different approaches: psychiatric evaluations, medication management, individual, family and couples’ therapy, group therapy, personal assistance, and casework support. Through treatment and support, BHS encourages as much independence as possible for clients.

Services Offered

Psychiatric Evaluation

An initial interview with a psychiatrist to discuss problems and recommendations.

Therapy – Group, Individual, Family, or Marital

Counseling to treat specific behavioral problems once symptoms are identified.

     Current Groups Offered:     Co-Occurring Mental Health & Substance Use Group 
                                               Support Group for Parents of Deaf Children

Medication Therapy

A licensed psychiatrist prescribes medication and evaluates their effectiveness.
